Managing Stress with 6 Tips

Small Business Solutions

It’s no secret that business owners are under a tremendous amount of stress. However, they often don’t take the time to address that stress, so it continues to build up. This can lead to effectiveness as well as mental and physical health issues. Therefore, it’s essential that business owners and entrepreneurs learn to manage their stress levels. Here are a few tactics that can help:

Set Boundaries: It’s common for a business owner to work during weekends or vacations. While that is sometimes necessary, it shouldn’t be the norm. Separation between the two will allow an entrepreneur to find joy and fulfillment outside of their business, which is essential.

Step Away: Personal time to recharge is key, even if it only lasts a few moments. This could look like taking a walk, reading a book, or having a meal with someone and not talking about work.

Phone-Free Time: Whether it’s a morning, an entire day, or weekend, people need to put their phone down. Having a technology detox will force them to have time away. If they set up an “Out of Office” email and ask a trusted person to take the lead, they can disconnect with a clear mind.

Let Go of Control: In order for a business to be effective, it needs to be able to function without its ownership. Owners need to trust their people and know that if something goes wrong, they will fix it and learn from it. Being “always on” is unsustainable, so creating an environment where that is not necessary should be a priority.

Identify a Support System: Every business owner needs people they can lean on. This can be family, a mentor, or a group of peers that can empathize with them. Sometimes, venting or talking through an issue can be essential in solving it. It is okay to ask for and accept help, emotional or otherwise.

Delegate and Outsource: It’s not realistic for a business owner to do it all alone. The only way to get things off of their plate so that they can de-stress is to delegate. Hand tasks to employees or hire contractors if the budget allows. This frees up time by taking tasks off the owner’s plate and allows them to work on the business instead of in it.
