Phelps Construction Group’s New Headquarters: Dazzling in Denville

When Phelps Construction Group (PCG) decided to look for a bigger headquarters to accommodate its growing business, the company zeroed in on 255 West Main Street in Denville – once home to the flourishing Silbo Steel Corporation before a series of mismatched renovations and overgrown landscaping turned it into an eyesore.

PCG, whose portfolio of construction jobs ranges from small renovations to complex multi-million-dollar projects, collaborated with ENV architects to transform the building into a vibrant structure that greets commuters and visitors arriving in Denville along Route 46 or off Route 80.

With the addition of a prefabricated metal warehouse to the property, the final footprint of PCG’s new $3.4 million headquarters spans more than 10,000 square feet. Features include private/flex offices, collaborative work areas, a multipurpose room for lunch and leisure, and larger meeting rooms. In addition, expansive glass demountable partitions with walnut accents carry throughout the modern space, along with accents of blue and orange, PCG’s signature colors.

The project, completed late last year,  incorporates sustainability and safety improvements that benefit the environment. At the same time, its economic impact includes the employment of 317 construction workers during the build and the addition of 28 full-time employees to PCG’s ranks. The project has received overwhelming approval from Denville town officials and residents, who say it has revitalized a historically underutilized property while integrating seamlessly into the surrounding highways and Indian Lake neighborhood.
