NJBPU Approves $100 Residential Universal Bill Credit for Ratepayers

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) today approved the Residential Universal Bill Credit, which will provide $100 in energy bill assistance to all 3.9 million New Jersey residential ratepayers with an active electric account with one of the four public, investor-owned utility companies: Public Service Electric and Gas, Atlantic City Electric, Jersey Central Power and Light, and Rockland Electric Company. Bill credits will be applied to electricity bills starting in September and October. Residents will receive a $50 credit for each month.

The $100 bill credit concludes the NJBPU’s efforts to roll out over $430 million in direct bill relief to mitigate the spike in PJM capacity costs. The first portion of the $430 million relief package was REAP, which was recently approved by the Board and will provide an additional $175 in direct relief on top of the $100 credit approved today to income-qualifying ratepayers via $25 credits between August and February 2026.

“Providing economic relief to our residents is critical in managing rising electric costs from the PJM cost crisis,” said Gov. Phil Murphy. “My administration is furthering our commitment to affordability for our residential ratepayers by providing direct assistance to lower the monthly cost of energy bills. No New Jerseyan should fear losing electricity, and we will continue to work with BPU to ensure necessary action is taken to combat untenable energy bills for families and businesses.”
