For the 15th straight year, Princeton University ranks as the No. 1 school in the nation, according to new college rankings released by U.S. News and World Report.
For more than four decades, U.S. News & World Report‘s Best Colleges rankings have been used as a guide for students and families in their college search. The 2026 edition evaluated more than 1,700 US colleges and universities, using up to 17 factors to measure academic quality and graduate success.
All three Rutgers campuses were also ranked in the top 100 including Rutgers University’s New Brunswick campus, the second highest ranked New Jersey school, coming in at No. 42 nationally. Rutgers Newark ranked No. 75 in the national university list, and Rutgers Camden ranked No. 97 nationally.
The other New Jersey universities to make the top 100 include the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, which both tied and ranked No. 80 in the country.
Rounding out the top 10 ranked schools in New Jersey:
Montclair State University (tied at No. 158 nationally)
Seton Hall University (tied No. 158 nationally)
Stockton University (tied No. 158 nationally)
Rowan University (No. 169 nationally)
