Construction Industry Career Day Showcases Opportunities

The Associated Construction Contractors of New Jersey (ACCNJ), in collaboration with industry associations, their labor partners and the CICD committee, hosted Construction Industry Career Day (CICD) 2025 on May 27 and May 28 at the New Jersey Convention and Expo Center in Edison.

The interactive, two-day event showcased the construction industry’s educational opportunities and occupations. Both days included hands-on demonstrations from New Jersey’s construction trades and the opportunity to visit display booths for colleges, trade associations, and federal and state agencies.

“It is an industry of opportunity, and they are looking to recruit, retain, and elevate people within the trades,” said Jill Schiff, chief operating officer, ACCNJ. “People need to see a career path, and that’s what we’re affording them here today – showing people how they got into the positions they are in, where they started, and what they get for it; that they are essentially getting an education for free.”

Tuesday’s event was geared toward adults, specifically veterans as well as the underemployed, unemployed, students and parents, while Wednesday was exclusively for high school students. More than 2,400 students from 80 different schools attended and were able to participate in interactive, hands-on displays provided by the union construction trades, speak with representatives from colleges across New Jersey, and explore a wide range of career pathways in the construction industry.

Since its inception in 2001, CICD has continued to inspire the next generation of craftworkers by providing all who attend with ample information regarding construction career opportunities, educational requirements, transferable credentials, wage progressions and the potential to earn college credits.
