Hasbrouck Heights-based PR agency MikeWorldWide has named Mahen Gunaratna as its new executive vice president of public affairs.
Gunaratna, the former chief strategy officer and communications director to Gov. Phil Murphy, joined Murphy’s senior staff as communications director on January 16, 2018.
He led the National Governors Association and Democratic Governors Association during Murphy’s tenure, and previously worked for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, several members of Congress, and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign before coming to New Jersey.
In his role at MWW, Gunaratna will advise organizations as they navigate complex challenges including policy environments, heightened scrutiny, crisis situations and reputational risk.
Over a more than 15-year career, Gunaratna has served at the highest levels of American public life, including three presidential campaigns, New York City Hall and the US Congress.
“MikeWorldWide is known for helping leaders act with confidence when the path forward is not obvious,” Gunaratna said. “I’m excited to join the firm and support clients through challenging and defining moments when clear vision and clear communication make all the difference.”
