American Water Charitable Foundation Launches 2026 Grants

The American Water Charitable Foundation is making water and environmental grants available for nonprofits in New Jersey and other states in American Water’s service area.

Applications for grants will be accepted online now through March 6 from nonprofits seeking funding for programs or projects that promote clean water, conservation, environmental education, climate variability and water-based recreation.

Eligible community organizations include nonprofits as well as K-12 public schools, colleges, or universities. The applicants must operate within or directly benefit an American Water service territory.

Last year, the American Water Charitable Foundation awarded a combined total of $1.7 million to 80 organizations in 12 states, supporting organizations located in communities served by American Water. Grant decisions for the 2026 water and environment grants, part of the Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, will be made by April 30.

“The American Water Charitable Foundation is excited to launch its annual Water and Environment Grant Program, reinforcing our commitment to supporting innovative and impactful projects that strengthen communities across American Water’s national footprint,” said Carrie Williams, President, American Water Charitable Foundation.

“Through this grant program, we are proud to invest in initiatives that reflect our core focus on water and the environment,” she said.

The American Water Charitable Foundation is a philanthropic nonprofit organization established by American Water, the nation’s largest and most geographically diverse U.S. publicly traded water and wastewater utility company. American Water serves 14 million customers in 24 states, including New Jersey.
