The Jean and Ric Edelman Fossil Park & Museum of Rowan University, Mantua Township, officially opened its doors to the public this past Saturday, marking a milestone for science education, paleontology, and environmental conservation.
Guests are inspired by immersive exhibits and hands-on fossil digs that offer a unique window into prehistoric life.
“We’re beyond grateful to everyone who helped bring this incredible place to life—from our supporters and scientists to the educators, volunteers, and dreamers who believed in the power of discovery,” said Dr. Kenneth Lacovara, founding executive director of the museum. “This museum is about more than fossils; it’s about sparking curiosity, igniting wonder, and giving people of all ages the chance to experience the thrill of uncovering the past. We can’t wait to see the joy on their faces as they dig into history—literally.”
This institution, nestled atop a 66-million-year-old fossil-rich deposit, offers visitors an opportunity to step into the past and uncover the secrets of the Cretaceous period. Designed to inspire curiosity and discovery, Edelman Fossil Park & Museum provides hands-on experiences, interactive exhibits, and actual fossil digs, making it a premier destination for families, students, and science enthusiasts.
“New Jersey offers a remarkable array of attractions where history and nature intertwine, and we are proud to say one of the most significant fossil parks in the Northeast is now a part of that legacy,” said New Jersey Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way. “The team at the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum of Rowan University has meticulously preserved 66 million years of history, creating immersive, hands-on experiences—including quarry digs and live animal encounters—across its four-acre site. This must-visit destination will attract visitors from around the world and across the state to South Jersey for a truly transformative experience.”
Beyond world-class exhibits, Edelman Fossil Park & Museum offers immersive, hands-on experiences designed to spark curiosity, excitement, and a deep connection to the prehistoric world.
The design team for the project is a collaboration between Ennead Architects (Design Architect), led by Design Partner Thomas J.
